David Bernot.


Varsity Head Coach

Biography:

EDUCATION: Coach Bernot is a 1993 graduate of Leechburg High School. Hey earned a Bachelor of Science degree in Natural Sciences with minors in Chemistry and Biology from Indiana University of Pennsylvania in 1998, followed by a Master of Science degree in Physics from the same institution in 2001.

 

BIO & EXPERIENCE:

Coach Bernot has a strong background in bowling, competing throughout high school in youth junior leagues. He is a two-time Kittanning Elks Junior League Tournament Champion and the 1993 King’s Lanes Adult/Youth Doubles Tournament champion. 

 

Since 2021, Coach Bernot has served as the head coach of the SJHS Bowling team, becoming the first coach in the school's history to lead two boys, Jesse Bernot (his son) and Aiden Dehnert, to the Singles PA State Western Regional Playoffs. In addition, he coaches the junior program at Wildlife Lanes on weekends and has recently worked with the men's JV team at Saint Vincent College. 

 

Coach Bernot instills discipline in his athletes, emphasizing the importance of dedication. His motto is,, “Do it even if you don’t feel like it.”

 

SPORT INFO:

Spartan Bowling will open practice sessions beginning in November. Their home matches are played at Wildlife Lanes in Lower Burrell, Pennsylvania. 

Michael Pater.


Assistant Coach

Biography:

EDUCATION: Coach Pater is an alumnus of Saint Joseph High School (2008) and Saint Vincent College where he graduated with a degree in Catholic Theology. 

 

BIO & EXPERIENCE:

Coach Pater discovered his love of Ultimate Frisbee playing on a club team while in college. He continues to hone his skills in recreational leagues and is dedicated to developing players while constantly expanding his own knowledge.

 

Ultimate Frisbee is a unique sport that blends competition with camaraderie and respect among players. The sport got its start at Saint Joseph High School in 2018 when Coach Pater was approached by interested students. It has since been his mission to put together a team that is competitive while still inspiring athletes to embrace sportsmanship on the field. 

 

In 2022 the Spartans climbed the playoff ladder and made their first championship appearance. While the goal is to take a team back to that spot, Coach Pater is committed to elevating the players and stressing a greater focus on enjoying the game.

 

SPORT INFO:

Ultimate Frisbee runs during the Spring season, beginning in March. The Spartans compete in the PHUL league, Division 2. Their home field is located in Freeport Community Park.
